As a born in JWS it was impressed upon yourself to believe that it was literal and not to question it at all.

Thats a power by the way that many men have lusted for and some have actually succeeded in obtaining.
I think atheists don't disregard anything other than the exception that it was not guided by a deity of sorts in the writing of it.
It was wholly written by men who lived in a era of their own and who expressed their unique living experiences.
For myself it just holds some historical interest.
Embellished stories of the great Israelite god of that particular culture are strung throughout the bible.
With the advance in science and technology we can clearly understand that those words written were simple stories of
embellishment in an effort to strengthen the ideological form of their god and also to strengthen the identity of their particular culture.

for myself it would have to be the year they picked as the destruction of ancient jerusalem 607 bc.. i have an assumption this was done purposely to coincide correctly with making 1914 an a important pivotal date.
in human history, which by all factual evidence it was not.. unassuming and deceiving manipulation for self marketing purposes.
Another important lie that is probably the most dangerous and damaging is the absolute ban on blood transfusions.
This ban alone incited people to commit suicide mostly by pulling out their specially made No Blood Cards at a hospital
all to the frustration by doctors that have been placed in their care.
This one lie alone has caused thousands to perish needlessly, a misunderstanding of a dietary law on the consumption of blood
and its spiritual significance in relation to god. Parents lost their children, children lost their parents, the fact that they have made this
mistake is acknowledged now by allowing all the fractions of blood separately a deliberate back tracking of sorts. A fair estimate of at least 100
members of the JWS die every year on this terrible lie, a lie that is irreversible due to mostly legal reasons .
Making mythology into reality is always confusing and backward, nevertheless religion is designed by men for men,
and its both empowering and profitable financially if applied right.

on our trip back home from the thanksgiving holiday spent at our home town my wife labeled me an intellect.
normally, i would've been flattered with the title but when she called me that she was referencing the bible verse matthew 11:25. this offended me to say the least.. she said that it was hard for people like me to have faith in something because i will always investigate it and make sure of it.
for example, if someone told me that the grass was green, she said i would not believe them and research grass and the color green to ensure that it really was.. i told her that this was absurd and that i see no reason to research whether or not the grass was green when i can see with my own eyes what color it is.
